“the album finds the scene vets taking a stand against the sociopolitical status quo… The doomsday clock is ticking, and there’s no time to waste.” – Revolver Magazine
“the metallic hardcore is filthy and sinister, laden with a guitar tone resembling a power tool and with feedback akin to the noise one would make scraping on steel.” – Exclaim!

“The pedigree of SECT is incredible. Stacked with hardcore punk vets in each slot, their five contributors have cultivated a rich history, but none seems interested in touting any one single member’s past. The music and, more importantly, the message are immediate, harvesting concern and motivating fury from the present tense. Blasting ugly, confrontational D-beat crustcore, steeped in savage commentary regarding society’s conflicts…” – New Noise Magazine

SECT Debuts New Track “Stripes” Via Punktastic; No Cure For Death Incoming Via Southern Lord November 24th + Tour Dates Announced

SECT shares the caustic, riotous “Stripes” through a premiere at Punktastic. The track is taken from their second album, No Cure For Death, due out through Southern Lord next Friday, November 24th. Fueled by socio-political vitriol, for SECT, the purpose of hardcore as they know it is to convey an urgency that transcends age, credentials or scene politics, to convert desperation into real talk and action.

Vocalist Chris Colohan explains the thinking behind this particular track “‘Stripes’ is about the prison industrial complex in overdrive and the political and penal system keeping it stocked compensating economically for the abolition of slavery, and undercutting the gains of the civil rights movement. Essentially, de facto enslavement that aims to recreate and maintain the same original racial and pecking order with the same scapegoats and victims of not just decades but centuries ago that the West was built on. It’s an ugly reminder in the age of the overt white supremacist resurgence and the struggle against it that we’ve never yet gotten beyond that underlying foundation.”

SECT: No Echo Debuts “Day For Night” Video From Southern Lord-Bound No Cure For Death LP

SECT – founded by members of Cursed, Left For Dead, Catharsis, Undying, Earth Crisis, The Path Of Resistance, Day Of Suffering, Racetraitor, and more — has issued an official video created for the song “Day For Night,” which hails from the band’s impending second album, No Cure For Death, set for release later this month through Southern Lord.

No Echo has debuted the new video, which was directed by Justin Reich (Black Label Society, Crowbar, Hatebreed) alongside an interview with guitarist Scott Crouse, offering in part, “the video is an all-action affair that captures the intensity of both the band’s performance style and the song at hand… the song sounds both massive and mean as fuck.”

The result is a caustic, riotous, belligerent style of vile hardcore fed by a boundless well of socio-political vitriol. No Cure For Death was recorded with Kurt Ballou at GodCity Studios and mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music.

SECT gets right down to the blast beats and breakdowns that fight it out in their chaotic jams. They cut the shit and go for the throat with no time to waste, “because the Orwellian police states and irreparable social and ecological disasters we once saw off on the horizon are now on our front doorsteps, in full swing. And in just such a volatile, precarious moment as this for civilization, there is more reason than ever to keep lashing out at a world more suicidally-bent on its own destruction and the exploitation of people, species and the ecosystem itself, than perhaps ever before in history.”

For SECT, this is the purpose of hardcore as they know it, conveying an urgency that transcends age, credentials or scene politics, to convert desperation into real talk and action.

SECT Issues “Open Grave” Via Exclaim!; No Cure For Death LP Nears Release Through Southern Lord

North American straightedge/vegan hardcore/crust outfit SECT — featuring scene lifers hailing from Cursed, Left For Dead, Catharsis, Undying, Earth Crisis, The Path Of Resistance, Day Of Suffering, Racetraitor, and more — has issued the devastating “Open Grave,” the lead track their impending second album, No Cure For Death. The new song is now playing at Exclaim! Magazine as the LP nears November release through Southern Lord.

No Cure For Death was recorded with Kurt Ballou at GodCity Studios and mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music. SECT vocalist Chris Colohan explains that the new “Open Grave” single is, “a song about how we got to this point in history, how detached from consequence and oblivious to the removal of our most basic mental if not social, political or ecological safety nets we had to become to allow for the assault on reality we’re living out now to succeed. How the bar for what’s acceptable and what’s normalized just drops in free fall while we’re zoned out by the endless barrage of trivial amusements, and the fatal implications of that caliber of apathy not just for the West but civilization across the board.

Exclaim! issues with their premiere of the track, “the metallic hardcore is filthy and sinister, laden with a guitar tone resembling a power tool and with feedback akin to the noise one would make scraping on steel.”

Let SECT’s bleak “Open Grave” out of the casket through Exclaim! at THIS LOCATION.

Southern Lord will release No Cure For Death on CD, LP, and digital formats on November 24th; stand by for preorder links, official videos from the album, and more to be issued in the days ahead, and see recently-issued footage of the No Cure For Death recording sessions at THIS LOCATION.

SECT: Hardcore Outfit Featuring Members Of Cursed, Burning Love, Earth Crisis, Catharsis, And More Signs To Southern Lord; Band To Record Second LP With Kurt Ballou

With two countries and four hometowns between them, SECT was born when two project ideas between tour mates merged into the same experiment, finally taking shape in 2015 and culminating in recording sessions in Raleigh, North Carolina in early 2016. The band is comprised of five veterans of ‘90s hardcore who cut their teeth in that formative moment of political, cynical, antagonistic extremes, uniting vocalist Chris Colohan (Cursed, Burning Love, Left For Dead), guitarists James Chang (Catharsis, Undying) and Scott Crouse (Earth Crisis, The Path Of Resistance), bassist Steve Hart (Day Of Suffering), and drummer Andy Hurley (Racetraitor, Fall Out Boy, The Damned Things).

Offers Colohan of signing with Southern Lord, “My rule of thumb with labels these days is to work with one that I own at least five LPs from. Smart music business opportunities don’t mean shit without a true respect for each others’ tastes, aesthetic and passions. Between their classic doom alumni (Earth, Sunn, Boris, Sleep), their reverent reissues of cult thrash bands like Nihilist and classic hardcore like Poison Idea or Bl’ast, and the equal love they put into modern bands with the spirit of all of the above (like Power Trip or Nails), a label doesn’t get much closer to that ideal for me than Southern Lord. It was an absolute pleasure working with Greg and the SL family with Burning Love and I’m beyond excited to have SECT join their ranks.

Southern Lord owner Greg Anderson offers, “As soon as I heard about Chris Colohan being in a new band I immediately was excited and preordered their LP. I was not disappointed. SECT are harsh, unforgiving, and brutal in all the most effective ways. We’re extremely honored to be chosen to work with them. We will proudly be their ally in this battle.

Following their enthusiastically-received, self-released, self-titled LP in 2016, which passionately infused the brutalizing and infectious elements of each of the artist’s respective sounds, SECT will enter GodCity Studio in Salem, Massachusetts with Kurt Ballou (Converge) this Summer to record their follow-up LP, and Southern Lord debut.

SECT gets right down to the blast beats and breakdowns that fight it out in their chaotic jams. They cut the shit and go for the throat with no time to waste “because the Orwellian police states and irreparable social and ecological disasters we once saw off on the horizon are now on our front doorsteps, in full swing. And in just such a volatile, precarious moment as this for civilization, there is more reason than ever to keep lashing out at a world more suicidally bent on its own destruction and the exploitation of people, species and the ecosystem itself, than perhaps ever before in history.” For SECT, this is the purpose of hardcore as they know it, conveying an urgency that transcends age, credentials or scene politics, to convert desperation into real talk and action.

SECT has several Northeast US tour dates confirmed for early next month, with a run through Baltimore, Wallingford, and Brooklyn, March 10th, 11th, and 12th, respectively.

Stand by for steady influx of updates on SECT throughout the coming months.
