JESUS PIECE is quickly developing a reputation as one of the heaviest, most uncompromising acts both on record and on the stage. With the brutalizing grooves of Disembodied, Turmoil, Harm’s Way, and labelmates Xibalba, the band incorporates elements of noise, ominous tones, and haunting atmospheres into their dynamic songwriting. With crushing, modern production, the eleven new tracks on their Only Self debut LP place JESUS PIECE among the scene’s darkest and heaviest acts and delivers one of the most anxiously-awaited albums of the hardcore/metal underground this year.

JESUS PIECE rage at the nexus of hardcore, death metal, industrial, and ’90s metalcore. They’re part of a new metalcore movement that proves that experimentation and succinct, clobbering riffs can not only coexist, but make for natural partners. On their first full-length, Only Self, they make the case that such should be the new tradition.” – Pitchfork

“Through clenched teeth, vocalist Aaron Heard sounds like an unhinged animal, ferociously tearing through drop tuning, d-beats, blasts and exaggerated breakdowns to create the ideal pied piper to lead us all down this path of hate and frustration.” – Revolver Magazine

“It’s unclear what’s in the American water these days (or perhaps the current political tenor makes it quite obvious…), but the United States is producing some of the best hardcore the country ever has. And Philadelphia’s JESUS PIECE might as well be the poster boys for the movement.” – Kerrang

“They’ve got a fat, bass-heavy attack that favors pure brutality over complexity. It’s the kind of thing that can seem like it exists just so angry kids have an excuse to go to a show and slam their bodies into each other for twenty minutes, but further listens reveal Only Self to be an album that’s a little more tasteful than that.” – Brooklyn Vegan

“Only Self proves that the decision to go with Southern Lord was a good one and is a prime example of the ways hardcore bands can benefit from experimenting with their sound. As good as Only Self is, it proves that the band is capable of a lot more than we’ve seen, and I’m already anticipating where they go next.” – New Noise Magazine

“On Only Self, JESUS PIECE expands their sonic palette, incorporating drone and sludge influences in a way only hinted at previously by the “Mantra” interlude on their 2016 promo tape. The band stays true to their foundations as purveyors of violently heavy riffs while showing that they still have new tricks up their sleeve.” – No Echo

Philadelphia’s JESUS PIECE premieres their new single “Punish” through Cvlt Nation, as the band’s Only Self debut LP nears release later this month via Southern Lord.
Only Self was recorded in Chicago at Bricktop Recording Studio with Andy Nelson (Weekend Nachos, Like Rats, Dead In The Dirt) mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege (Integrity, Nails, Xibalba), and completed with artwork by Dom Pabon.
With the premiere of “Punish,” Cvlt Nation declares, “It was a long wait for a full length from JESUSPIECE. This record was absolutely worth the wait. Only Self is hardcore music at its finest. The songwriting, the metallic production, the lyrical content – it’s all so cohesive. When I first learned who JP was, I was glued to the internet for a few weeks watching live videos of a band that is uncompromisingly heavy. It’s a beautiful thing when a band’s live reputation stacks up to their album. This release is the next chapter in what will hopefully be a reign of unending terror for years to come.”
JESUS PIECE vocalist Aaron Heard simply offers, “‘Punish’ is aggression.”

JESUS PIECE is a Philadelphia hardcore band that works tirelessly to play to everyone they can. Their anthems lyrically range from personal struggle and loss, to racism, police brutality, and many other social and political injustices. The band formed in 2015 and self-released their first demo/EP in the same year, followed by a self-released EP in the Summer of 2016. Most recently, Bridge Nine Records released a split 7″ between JESUS PIECE and Malice At The Palace earlier this year. The band has paved their own way into the national scene by booking multiple headlining coast-to-coast tours among many bouts of regional touring and performances at notable festivals including This Is Hardcore, Nature World Fest, Sound And Fury, FYA Fest, and others. 2018 will see the band record their debut LP for release through Southern Lord.

Southern Lord announces the signing of JESUS PIECE, confirming the release of the band’s debut LP in 2018. JESUS PIECE is also confirmed to support Darkest Hour on their US tour beginning this week, and has a European tour confirmed for August.

JESUS PIECE is a Philadelphia hardcore band that simply plays what they want to hear, and they work tirelessly to play to everyone they can. Their anthems lyrically range from personal struggle and loss, to racism, police brutality, and many other social and political injustices.

JESUS PIECE formed in 2015 and self-released their first demo/EP in the same year, followed by a self-released EP in the Summer of 2016.

Issues JESUS PIECE on the new signing, “Southern Lord is a label we’ve looked up to for releasing some of our favorite metal and hardcore records, so it’s an honor to be a part of it, and we’re super excited to put out our first record with them.”

Southern Lord owner Greg Anderson states, “JESUS PIECE evokes intense, discordant, angular aggression in the same way certain ’90s bands were kicking asses with. Think Deadguy, Kiss it Goodbye, Bloodlet, Disembodied. They fuse this chaos with a brutal modern execution. Southern Lord is extremely excited to be working with JESUS PIECE and can’t wait to unleash their debut album upon the unsuspecting hordes.

JESUS PIECE will support Southern Lord labelmates Darkest Hour on their Godless Prophets & The Migrant Flora Tour Part II which begins this weekend, and runs through July 23rd, with shows in Clifton, Virginia Beach, Spartanburg, Orlando, Margate, Tampa, Atlanta, and Fayetteville.

Also, just announced; JESUS PIECE will take August on their first tour international tour, hitting Europe and the UK. The newly-confirmed tour begins August 4th and will run until the last week of August, with the final few tour dates being confirmed. Stand by for a full new tour update in the days ahead.
