“The heaviness of their music resists falling into stoner/sludge mode, but there is huge weight attached to them that, when it hits, is a flooring experience…A Gaze Among Them has the power to crush and caress in equal measures.” – 4* RECORD COLLECTOR

“Their fourth full length is as sparse and explorative as ever, but it’s rendered this time in accessible technicolour…A Gaze Among Them remains steadfastly bold…This newfound confidence suits vocalist/guitarist Robin Wattie, her voice sounding by turns otherworldly, and toweringly defiant, BIG| BRAVE have turned sonic minimalism into a kaleidoscopic experience that becomes increasingly compulsive with each listen.” – 8/10 METAL HAMMER

“a work of shattering weight and magnificence. The fight to be objective about Big|Brave is futile; this band will touch and disturb you like no other, in ways you never thought you could be. Forget classic of its genre: A Gaze Among Them is a classic of its time.” – 9/10 GHOST CULT

“Big | Brave sound utterly unique, like they’ve passed through a secret aperture into territory as yet unexplored by others” – 4.5/5 MUSIC OMH

“A Gaze Among Them is a precious album of truly beautiful aural elation which should be enough to lift the heaviest of hearts.” – 8/10, THE 405

BIG|BRAVE Announces First Round Of Tour Dates For 2018 Including Roadburn Festival

Since their inception in 2012, BIG|BRAVE has demonstrated the fluidity of experimental rock and put everything into their music until there’s nothing left to give. Their art in musical refinement expands ever gradually, unfurling into a very heavy, strong, and elevating force. As comfortable as they are with tidal waves of sound, BIG|BRAVE is unafraid to experiment with silence, oscillating between sparse, gentle arrangements and deep swells of noise.

Swirling static, booming guitars, powerful drums – all the hallmarks that have made them one of experimental rock’s most exciting acts today. The band’s first wave of dates for the new year has been announced, with a Spring tour across Europe and into Russia confirmed for April and early May, which includes a set at this year’s massive Roadburn Festival. Watch for more tour dates to be announced.

the sound of the raw unconscious, turned up loud.” – Pitchfork

sincere, long-form out-rock that ventures into different directions their music plays out in to moon-bleached grunge where serene vocals crumble over scraping guitars bled of melody. BIG|BRAVE chooses their silences carefully, oscillating between sparse, gentle arrangements and deep swells of noise.” – Cvlt Nation

Montreal’s genre-defying post-rock combo BIG|BRAVE could very well be the most noteworthy recent heavy curiosity to come out of the city in recent years.” – Noisey

…combines elements of Björk, Neurosis, The White Stripes, and Sunn O))) into a cohesive whole; but this whole is an ever evolving and challenging sonic mass.” – The Quietus

a raw, evocative mix of slow-burning post-rock and metal that is somehow both wrecking-ball heavy and feather-delicate, with ferocious, barely-controlled feedback and mountainous, lingering chords. Wattie’s soprano both cuts through and lingers on the weighty sounds, with elusive vocalizations that verge on avant-pop.” – Bandcamp

Ardor bides its time and it was made by a band brave enough to create music and a track listing that allows this spectacle of a record to satisfying inch towards a riveting pitch. It’s an album that evokes the ear blistering noise of Sunn O))) but it’s also emotionally charged music. BIG|BRAVE have somehow made a ruthlessly loud record that is also fascinating, and consistently elegant.” – Drowned In Sound

BIG|BRAVE Streams Entire Ardor LP, Out Tomorrow Through Southern Lord

Montreal three-piece BIG|BRAVE will release their sophomore LP, Ardor, this Friday through Southern Lord. With just three songs that clock in for a forty-minute-long album, BIG|BRAVE has adopted a nearly unbearable level of urgency and intensity that weaves throughout Ardor. Chock full of swirling static, booming guitars, powerful drums-all the hallmarks that have made them one of experimental rock’s most exciting acts today-the album can be streamed in full today, featured on Bandcamp Daily, alongside an interview with the band.

Stream BIG|BRAVE’s Ardor, featured at Bandcamp RIGHT HERE.

As with their previous release, Au De La, the new Ardor album was recorded at the Hotel2Tango, this time by Radwan Ghazi Moumneh (of Jerusalem In My Heart). Jessica Moss (Thee Silver Mt Zion Memorial Orchestra), who was a special guest on Au De La, played violin on all the three new tracks, and Thierry Amar (Godspeed You! Black Emperor) played contrabass on two of the tracks.

Since their inception in 2012, BIG|BRAVE has demonstrated the fluidity of experimental rock and put everything into their music, until there’s nothing left to give. Their particular art in musical refinement expands ever gradually, unfurling into a very heavy, strong, and elevating force. As comfortable as they are with tidal waves of sound, BIG|BRAVE is unafraid to experiment with silence, oscillating between sparse, gentle arrangements and deep swells of noise.

Look for Ardor to be released this Friday, September 15th via Southern Lord. Watch for more news to be released in the weeks ahead.

BIG|BRAVE has also announced new tour dates coinciding with the release of Ardor, including one-off shows in Montreal and Brooklyn this month, and a run of North American dates supporting labelmates Unsane in December, with more dates to be announced.
