DARKEST HOUR East Coast Mini-Tour Begins Next Week; Band Announces Death To False Metalcore European Tour And Launches Signature Ice Cream

Washington, DC-based DARKEST HOUR will embark on their special East Coast mini-tour next week, which will see the long-running metal quintet headlining with support from some of their hand-picked favorite hometown scene acts.
 
DARKEST HOUR will kick off the mini-tour on their home turf in DC on November 13th, followed by shows in Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Brooklyn through November 16th. On all four shows, the band will be joined by iconic hardcore outfit Damnation A.D., blackened punk act Cemetery Piss, hardcore punk outfit Walk The Plank, and new outfit No Man. Just two days after the mini-tour, DARKEST HOUR traverse the country to take part in The Power Of The Riff on November 18th, performing with Sunn O))), Scream, Xibalba, Xasthur, Papa M, and Entry.
 
With this tour rapidly approaching, DARKEST HOUR also announces the first European tour dates of 2019. The newly-announced trek, dubbed Death To False Metalcore, will see the band co-headlining with Unearth, with support from Misery Signals, Malevolence, and Left Behind, and runs from March 21st through April 1st.
 
Additionally, DARKEST HOUR has teamed up with Mount Desert Island Ice Cream shop in Washington DC, owned by Dischord Record employees, to create a new signature flavor, Savor The Chill. THE POWER OF THE RIFF’s Final Lineup Announced; Los Angeles-Based November Event Celebrates Southern Lord’s 20th Anniversary

THE POWER OF THE RIFF makes is return in November, hosting a Los Angeles-based event with two days of performances featuring a wide range of heavy acts. The first incarnation of THE POWER OF THE RIFF since late 2016, this year’s gathering will take place the weekend of November 17th and 18th.

THE POWER OF THE RIFF’s 2018 festivities will begin on Saturday, November 17th, with a kickoff party at The Echo. This show will see new Southern Lord act THE PRIMALS, a power trio featuring members of Darkest Hour, The Explosion, and more, opening for a rare set by legendary ‘60s garage rock outfit, THE SONICS.

The main event for THE POWER OF THE RIFF will take place Sunday, November 18th, at The Echoplex. This show will be headlined by SUNN O))), who in 2018 is celebrating their twentieth anniversary along with the Southern Lord label, both of which came to life in 1998. This show mark’s SUNN O)))’s only California show of 2018 and final show of the year. The rest of the lineup includes the original lineup of Washington, DC hardcore legends SCREAM, fellow DC metal outfit DARKEST HOUR, brutal metallic hardcore act XIBALBA, PAPA M – the solo project of David Pajo of Slint, Tortise, Royal Trux, and more – legendary underground entity XASTHUR, and LA’s own hardcore punk outfit ENTRY.

VITAMIN X: North American Tour From Dutch Hardcore/Punk Icons Underway; Age Of Paranoia LP Out Now On Southern Lord

Long-running Dutch hardcore/punk icons VITAMIN X make their return to North America this week with their first tour dates on the continent in more than five years. The run of tour dates began with two shows in Mexico over the weekend. The band now hits both the West and East Coasts of the United States. VITAMIN X is touring in support of their latest LP, and crushing Southern Lord debut, Age Of Paranoia, which saw release in May.
Surging with rapid-fire punk angst, replete with ripping rock leads and raised-fist, group-chanting anthems, VITAMIN X deploys sixteen volatile tracks in a succinct, white-knuckled, twenty-eight minutes on Age Of Paranoia. The album was recorded by Igor Wouters at ARC Studios in Amsterdam and includes special guest guitar solos by J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr., Witch) and Bubba Dupree (Void, Soundgarden, Dave Grohl’s Probot, Brant Bjork). The cover artwork was created by Marald (Baroness, Kylesa, High On Fire).
VITAMIN X now storms back to North America this month, with a run of tour dates on which they will be playing songs from Age Of Paranoia for the first time as well as their fan favorite and seminal tracks. This new tour will see the band touring the West Coast for the first time since 2012 and the East Coast for the first time since 2013. Following two shows in Mexico, the band plays Los Angeles with Trappist and more tonight, with shows across California and Arizona through October 7th. After that, they hit the East Coast US for five shows with support from Fixation, the tour ending in Philadelphia on October 13th.

THE PRIMALS: BrooklynVegan Premieres “Fortune & Sons” Video; Debut LP From Los Angeles Trio Out Now Via Southern Lord

LA-based rock trio THE PRIMALS – founded by vocalist/guitarist John Henry (also of Darkest Hour), bassist Chad Fjerstad (formerly of Dead To Fall), and drummer Andrew Black (formerly of The Explosion) – have filmed a video for “Fortune & Sons,” which hails from their debut LP, All Love Is True Love, which saw release through Southern Lord in September. The new has been made public through a premiere at BrooklynVegan.

THE PRIMALS‘ fuzzy execution is equal slabs ripping guitar heaviness and infectious pop sensibility. Concocted by a seasoned group of thrashers with a historical backbone in the D.C. punk community, the disintegrated spirit of grunge rises from the ashes, revitalized in a new light. All Love Is True Love features ten infectious tracks produced by John Reis (Rocket From The Crypt, Drive Like Jehu, Hot Snakes) and completed with cover art by Laura K. Giron. Fans of Wand, Ty Segall, Nirvana, and The Pixies are especially recommended to tune in.

The “Fortune & Sons” video was directed and filmed by the band’s Chad Fjerstad, who offers, “I’ve been making these type of hacked-up, layered performance music videos for a few years now. I told myself I wanted to take a break from that stylistically but THE PRIMALS needed a video that shows the band for exactly who we are, doing what we do. This is a band that’s about one thing only: the music. Therefore, we’ve created a video free of other themes or concepts, letting our personas be the only thing to complement the song, with the exception of some color washing and video distortion of course. I’m glad we moved forward with it because this is probably my favorite music video of this style that I’ve made – it just works so wonderfully in the exact ways I wanted it to: shining a spotlight on John’s very natural presence as a frontman, showcasing the incredible talent of Andrew Black as a drummer, and matching the intensity of the very energetic track. Then, I’m in there too, playing that Thunderbird… I guess that’s worth something too. I’m not mad about any of it.”

This show mark’s SUNN O)))‘s only California show of 2018 and final show of the year.

JESUS PIECE Announces December Tour Of Japan; Only Self Debut Album Out Now Through Southern Lord

Following the release their monolithic, acclaimed debut LP, Only Self, through Southern Lord in August, Philadelphia’s JESUS PIECE is booking new tour dates in support of the album. The band has confirmed that they will travel to Japan for their first tour of the country in December.
JESUS PIECE recorded Only Self at Bricktop Recording Studio in Chicago with Andy Nelson (Weekend Nachos, Like Rats, Dead In The Dirt), after which the album was mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege (Integrity, Nails, Xibalba) and completed with artwork by Dom Pabon.
JESUS PIECE has toured mercilessly alongside Darkest Hour, Comeback Kid, Burn, Knocked Loose, Terror, Vein, Year Of The Knife, and many more across North America and Europe over the past year, and just made their vicious return to This Is Hardcore this summer. Now, the band will make their maiden trip to Asia for a tour of Japan. The Only Self, Live In Japan trek will see the band playing across the chain of islands from December 15th through 19th. THE PRIMALS: Los Angeles Trio Streams Their Debut Album All Love Is True Love At Louder Sound; LP Out Friday Via Southern Lord

LA-based rock trio THE PRIMALS will release of their debut, All Love Is True Love, via Southern Lord this Friday. The album is streaming in advance via Louder Sound, who calls the record, “one of the best power pop records in years.” The feature includes a track-by-track guide from vocalist/guitarist John Henry (also of Darkest Hour) who is joined in THE PRIMALS by bassist Chad Fjerstad (formerly of Dead To Fall), and drummer Andrew Black (formerly of The Explosion).

THE PRIMALS‘ fuzzy execution is equal slabs ripping guitar heaviness and infectious pop sensibility. Concocted by a seasoned group of thrashers with a historical backbone in the D.C. punk community, the disintegrated spirit of grunge rises from the ashes, revitalized in a new light.

WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM To Reissue All Three Southern Lord Albums On Limited Edition 20th Anniversary Silver Vinyl; North American And European Tours With Behemoth And At The Gates Confirmed

Coinciding with Southern Lord’s 20th anniversary this year, the label announces the reissues of all three of the label’s acclaimed albums from WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM; Two Hunters, Black Cascade, and Celestial Lineage. Each special reissue will be issued on limited edition silver vinyl.
About the reissues the band remarks, “We are thrilled that Two Hunters, Black Cascade, and Celestial Lineage are back in print. These records document a fertile and magical time in our lives and we are so pleased that a new generation of fans will be able to enjoy these records on vinyl.”
WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM, who picked up the accolades for Best Underground Band at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods awards during their recent European touring, will continue to tour throughout the year. WITTR will be on tour with Behemoth and At The Gates October 19th through November 24th in the US and Canada. This same epic lineup invades Europe January 10th through February 11th, 2019.
