Ascend - "Ample Fire Within" CD
ASCEND is a new collaborative musical project between Gentry Densley (Iceburn, Eagle Twin) and Greg Anderson (sunn 0))), Goatsnake, Engine Kid).
Both have been making music that has crossed paths several times in the last 19 years.(!!!) The most notable being during the 90s when Andersons’ band Engine Kid toured with and shared a split album with Densleys’ band Iceburn. During that time both were heavily experimenting with the fusion of jazz (Mahavishnu Orchestra, Miles Davis, John Coltrane) and the dark behemoth tones of influences such as The Melvins, Gore, Slint, and the Caspar Brötzmann Massaker.
ASCEND re-visits some of the tones, and moods of their past works as well as traveling into uncharted territory all done with the utmost focus on heaviness and power.
Special guest appearances on this album by Andy Patterson (drums), Steve Moore (aka Stebmo, also in Earth and often times : sunn 0))) ) trombone, organ and wurlitzer, Bubba Dupree (Void) guitar AND none other than Kim Thayil (Soundgarden) put down some incredible lead work! The packaging and layout was created by Stephen O' Malley with a homage to our favorite jazz records of the past from labels like ECM and Impulse! (Multi-panel digi-pac w/ booklet inserted.)

Pentemple- 0))) Presents.....
In May of 2007 thee mighty SUNN 0))) embarked on a Pacific Rim tour that included performances in Australia and Japan. The lineup for this tour included the core sunn 0))) duo: Greg Anderson and Stephen O'Malley plus T.O.S. (Moog), Oren Ambarchi (analog effects and supplemental guitar) and vokillist Attila Csihar. Upon arrival in Melbourne, Australia, sunn 0))) invited one of their favorite black metal artists: Striborg over from Tasmania (!!!) to collaborate with them during their show. This unholy meeting went over very well and the inaugural ritual was a warm up gig at the Toft in Town club one evening before the larger gig at the Hi-Fi Bar (w/ brethren: Boris).
The results of this collaboration was a completely improvisational, vicious audio and visual assault on the sold out, standing room only audience! Striborg really blew all of us way with not only his wicked vocal invocations but also his incredibly skillful drumming! This was among the first time that sunn 0))) had worked with live drums and the outcome was completely unprecedented. The whole event was recorded live to 24-track/multi-track. Afterwards Oren Ambarchi edited, sequenced and overhauled the EQ to make it as brutal as possible. This blackened low-end psychedelic war is not for the faint of heart!

Its truly remarkable how the band consciously have set out (and achieved) to make two completely different sounding versions of the same album. It is a testament to their continual, endless well-spring of creativity! The Southern Lord version also features a track that has never been heard by anyone! : "You Were Holding an Umbrella". We purposely left this song off any promo versions in order to prevent the entire album from being leaked online.

The ultra-deluxe 180 gram TRIPLE vinyl with Tri-Fold (3 pocket gatefold) DIE-CUT sleeve of the "Rock Dream" collaboration album from Boris and Merzbow! A live, psychedelic, mind expanding collaboration between Boris and the legendary Japanese master of abrasion: MERZBOW!
The two entities are no stranger to collaborative releases and their symmetrical chemistry burns a brightly shining path on this special release. What makes the Boris w/ Merzbow collaboration particularly interesting is that both Boris and Merzbow seem to leave behind the expected to fully embrace the unknown. The usually harsh, corrosive grate of Merzbow is not as apparent with Boris involved. Also the inspired charge of the Boris rock machine seems to reach new heights with Merzbows' intuitive textures added. This is however not entirely free-form. In fact the structure of this is what sets it apart from the majority of Merzbow related releases and collaborations. Boris assionately play their songs as they appear on the albums, but with Merzbow sharing the stage the result transcends the usual conventions of "rock-song" structure. In the end all musicians have created sounds and atmosphere that retains qualities of each group yet takes the listener to a new plateau.
Vinyl version contains the bonus track: "Dyno-Saur" not available on the cd version! Elaborate and beautiful packaging designed by Stephen O'Malley. This is as elaborate and visually stunning (if not more!) as our last Boris release: "Altar" (w/ sunn 0)))). It truly needs to be seen to be believed! Our printer vows to never ever make anything like this again as it was painfully time-consuming and took forever to get just right!

The debut album from LOC was originally released as a numbered, limited edition cd by Southern Lord. It immediately sold out and has now become a very sought after release. For those who are discovering this darkness for the first time, here are some words we wrote in regards to the original limited edition cd release:
LEVIATHAN creator: WREST, steps above and below his usual recording evokation of Leviathan to unleash a entirely different incarnate: LURKER OF CHALICE. With Leviathan: Wrest has poisoned the US Black Metal Underground with several now legendary works of pure black art. However their are many more layers and worlds of darkness for this artist to explore and contaminate the audio canals of the unsuspecting. `With Lurker of Chalice Wrest takes a nearly gothic approach to some of his vokills. BURNING WITCH-"Crippled Lucifer, Ten Psalms for Our Lord of Light" 2xcd limited version
After a elongated eternity of anticipation it is with extreme relief that we are able to announce that:
Crippled Lucifer: 10 Psalms For Our Lord of Light is finally done and ready to be devoured! These recordings are the roots of much of what has grown into the current existence of Southern Lord alumni: sunn 0))), Khanate, Goatsnake, Teeth Of Lions Rule The Divine etc.. as well as: KTL, Asva, etc..
For the uninitiated: ...After the breakup of the cult doom/death band Thorr's Hammer in 1995, Stephen O'Malley, Greg Anderson and Jamie Sykes formed Burning Witch. The band then added G. Stuart Dahlquist and vocalist Edgy 59, rounding out their lineup. Anderson left the band and moved to Los Angeles to form the band Goatsnake. In 1996, the band (w/out Anderson) recorded songs with Steve Albini, which would become the Towers... EP. This collection would actually not see a formal release on 12" until 1998 on Slap A Ham Records. After the sessions for these songs, Sykes left the band and was replaced by B.R.A.D.
The sessions that followed the Albini recordings resulted in the Rift.Canyon.Dreams EP, which would prove to be the final recordings by the band, as they broke up soon after the disc was completed. It was released on 12" by Merciless Records. Shortly after disbanding: " Crippled Lucifer" a compilation CD of the two EPs, was released in 1998 by the then new label Southern Lord Records. It was the second release of the label, the first being Thorrs' Hammer. Burning Witch briefly reformed for their last shows in the fall of 1998 after which Edgy 59 left the band. O'Malley reunited with Anderson to form Sunn O))), and Dahlquist joined both in sunn 0))) for their first two albums (The Grimm Robe Demos Void) then briefly joined Anderson in Goatsnake for the "Flower of Disease" album.
This deluxe double cd re-issue of all Burning Witch recordings will serve as a respectful epitaph for this incredible band. It compiles both the Towers and Rift Canyon Dreams albums which were on the the original Crippled Lucifer release PLUS the following out of print material:
"Communion" and "the Bleeder" from: split CD with Goatsnake (Hydra Head Records 2000) OUT OF PRINT
and
"Rift Canyon Dreams" from :split 12" with Asva (Dos Fatales Records 2004) OUT OF PRINT
(remixed by Randall Dunn (sunn, boris, earth) and available for the first time ever on cd)

The 3rd sacred voyage of drone mantra purity from Om! Helmed by the master rhythm section of Chris Hakius (drums) and Al Cisneros (bass) (both formerly of Sleep) Pilgrimage contains four brand new songs featuring the gropus unique use of riff, cadence and chant. Lyrical themes address the processes of mind, psychic reality, astral and causal planes of being, and the nature of the soul. Pilgrimage was recorded and engineered by Steve Albini at his Electrial Audio studios in Chicago and produced by the band. Mastering was handled by Bob Weston (also of Shellac). Of particular note is how much the song-writing has developed and in turn makes the dynamics of the songs much more intensely powerful. The present journey finds the band expanding their vision into new territories.

Two brand new exclusive sunn 0))) tracks available officially on vinyl only!
ORAKULUM was originally composed for a live performance collaboration with the New York sculptor Banks Violette at the Maureen Paley Gallery in London, June of 06. Violette created sculptural representation of SUNN O)))s entire backline in cast resin and salt, including amplifier stacks, instruments, effects & accompaniments. In addition, black laquered stage platforms and sound panels were created as a basis for the groups actual backline setup, and a selection of drawings were presented within the context. The result of this performance and collaboration, which was conducted in a sealed gallery space, was intended to generate a feeling of absence, loss and a phantom of what once was.
The A side of this lp: BELUROL PUSZTIT was also recorded at this session. Initially this song was created for the "Jukebox Buddha" compilation as it features the use of the tone generating Buddha Boxes within the track. In the style of sunn 0))) these boxes were run through the sunn backline and recorded at maximum volume which of course yielded maximum results! BELUROL PUSZTIT " also features extra "instrumentation" from Atsuo Mizuno (Boris) on drums and Joe Preston (Earth, Melvins, Thrones) on jackhammer (!!!) !!!!
The 180 gram vinyl is packaged in a thick printed innersleeve and thick cardboard gatefold jacket. Stark, stunning photographs of Banks Violettes' sculptures adorn all sides of the gatefold, innersleeve including a drawing by Banks on the innersleeve! The vinyl version will be the only "official" release of these recordings.
Any cd versions of "Oracle" are limited versions (mostly tour only) and will not be readily available.
The initially pressing of "Oracle" is 7,777 copies (2,000 on clear).

Weedeater-"God Luck And Good Speed" CD
After two critically acclaimed full length releases under their belts recorded by Billy Anderson (Neurosis, Melvins, High On Fire, etc.) and released respectively on Berserker and Crucial Blast Records, the latest and highly anticipated album, "God Luck And Good Speed" is upon us! All but one of the songs on the album were recorded and produced by the legendary Steve Albini (Neurosis, High On Fire, Nirvana, etc.) at Electrical Audio studios in Chicago. The sound is gigantic and both the production and recording skillfully capture the intense experience of a Weedeater live show while achieving tones that will swallow you whole. The non Albini session track, "Alone", was recorded by Mike Dean (Corrosion of Conformity) and simply consists of an acoustic bass
track, a banjo track, and vocally some of Dixie's best somber and sub-baritone rasping. The mastering was executed by John Golden (Neurosis, Melvins, ,etc.) and the finished product is nothing short of amazing. Arik Roper provided the art and it is presented on gold foil embossed on a 5" mini-gatefold, thick cardboard jacket. We are now ready to present to you the vinyl edition of the "Altar" album. This very special triple-vinyl version features completely over the top packaging that alot of time, care, effort, love and $ went into!
The heavy cardboard gatefold jacket has a 14 page color booklet within as well as a special third pocket (on the right hand pocket of the jacket) that contains the bonus 3rd Lp.
The booklet features exclusive imagery photos, and liner notes from Kim Thayil (Soundgarden)! Each of the three records come in specifically designed black (even on the inside) innersleeves. The 3rd LP "bonus track": Her Lips Were Wet With Venom / (Satanoscillatemymetallicsonatas) is a 28+ min. epic journey that is a result of both sunn 0))) and boris with Dylan Carslon (EARTH) engaged in a completely improvised, no holds-barred,mind - "altering" drone nirvana. Dark, powerful and ultimately up-lifting!
Mailorder customers have a choice of the 180 gram PURPLE, CLEAR OR PICTURE DISC versions. The vinyl weight for all colors is 180 gram.
Please be assured that we are going to take the utmost care in packaging these in hopes that they will arrive to you in pristine condition. The record will be sealed in a plastic bubble envelope

In the late eighties …Before the mighty formation of Sleep: Al Cisneros (Bass/Vocals), Chris Hakius, and Matt Pike (Guitar) played together (along with Thomas Choi/Guitar) in Asbestosdeath. Asbestosdeath are the roots of the oak that branched into the massive creation of not only Sleep but of course OM (Al and Chris), High On Fire (Matt) and ItisI/Operator Generator (Thomas Choi). Asbestosdeath was short-lived and only existed long enough to record 4 songs that were released on 2 separate 7’s. One: “Unclean” was self-released by the band, the other: “Dejection” was released by Profane Existence. These recordings are long out of print…buried by time and dust. On the specific request of the band Southern Lord has been chosen to unearth these recordings and make them available once again! "Unclean, Dejection album contains every Asbestosdeath studio recording on one specially priced release. The recordings were carefully mastered from original source material (ie: the vinyl!) by Mell Dettmer (Earth, sunn 0))), Altar, etc..)

They first came out with: Black 1, White 1 and White 2 and a few months later Flight of the Behemoth and Thee Grimm Robes. These releases are all packaged in deluxe 5" mini-gatefold jackets, OBI strip, and contain Japanese liner notes. They also all contain one additional bonus disc with rare live material. 00 Void is the only studio album sunn 0))) has recorded that is not yet available. We are hoping to re-issue it in the very near future. In the interest of consistency, chronology, and honor we have licensed 00 Void to Daymare for a Japanese issue and the results are stunning! 5" mini-gatefold jacket with the art that Stephen Kasner created for the limited edition vinyl release of this album that came out several years ago.
